We are proud to have two of our own amazing staff featured on a nationally televised show, Sports Starts of Tomorrow hosted by Legendary Sports Caster Pat Summerall. Markel Starks, Sports Camp Coach, and Prep senior who has committed to Georgetown to play basketball, had a featured spot on the show. They interviewed a variety of figures in his life including our own assistant director of GP Sports Camps, Blake Kaplan. Blake also serves as the strength and conditioning coach for Georgetown Prep. Prep Junior, Denny McCarthy featured in Sports Illustrated, Faces in the Crowd

Georgetown Prep Junior Denny McCarthy was featured in the July issue of Sports Illustrated. Denny, an amazing golfer, won an impressive three tournaments in one week of play. Recently, Paul Phillips who is a TE for Prep Football was featured in an article in ESPN RISE Magazine. Besides the football field Paul also excels at forward/center for the Prep basketball team. Top High School Lacrosse Teams to gather at Georgetown Prep for the 11^th annual Jesuit Lacrosse Tournament this weekend. Two of country’s top teams face-off live on ESPN2 from Georgetown Prep

Over 2,000 people packed the house at Georgetown Prep’s Hanley Center as Nationally Ranked #3 Oak Hill Academy (VA) defeated #7 Montrose Christian 69-63. The game which was nationally televised live on ESPN2 is perhaps a precursor to the National High School Invitational coming in early April at Georgetown Prep as both teams are expected to be invited to the first-ever National Championship tournament. Georgetown Prep’s Athletic program was recently named “Best High School Sports Program” by Bethesda Magazine in their annual review. The article featured a glimpse into the extraordinary athletic facilities that Georgetown Prep has to offer – from our nine athletic fields and golf course to the state of the art Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence that boasts 6 basketball courts, a 200 meter indoor track, fitness center, and 11 lane swimming pool. These facilities are the same used by GP Sports Camps and what enable the camps to operate at such a high level offering young athletes the chance to develop in their respective sports beyond what any other camp program in the area may offer.

GP to host first-ever National High School Basketball Invitational live on ESPN

The Washington Post reported that Chicago based Paragon Marketing Group announced late Monday that the first ever national high school championship tournament will be held at Georgetown Prep’s Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence April 3 – April 5, 2009. The event which is a collaboration between ESPN RISE ® and Paragon will feature the top 8 boys teams and top 4 girls teams from across the country in a single elimination format tournament.

Each of the games will be aired live on the family of ESPN networks with the Boy’s final game being broadcast live on ESPN. Georgetown Prep’s Hanley Center is uniquely equipped to handle an event of this size with over 125,000 square feet of indoor space. The games will be played on the Hanley Center Arena Court, which can handle a capacity crowd of 2,000 spectators. Click here to read the Washington Post article.
